.bank.in and .fin.in: India's domains for banks
.bank.in is reserved for Indian banks and .fin.in for financial institutions such as NBFCs. They're restricted so customers can tell a real bank website from a fake one.
Why they exist
Phishing sites often copy bank websites on look-alike domains. A restricted ending that only verified banks can get makes the real site easier to recognise. In 2025, the Reserve Bank of India asked Indian banks to move their websites to .bank.in.
What this means for you
- Expect your bank's website to end in .bank.in.
- Be suspicious of "bank" sites on other endings that ask for your login or OTP.
- You can't register .bank.in or .fin.in for a normal business.
